Using qEngine as a Blogging Script

As a CMS, qEngine can also be used as a blogging script; so you don't need any other blogging script.

  1. Go to ACP > Contents > Manage Types
  2. Click "Add Entry"
  3. Enter "BLOG" as identifier
  4. Fill the rest of the fields to your own needs

The Output

Now, you may wonder how your blog looks like. First to see your new blog, in content editor you can click "Preview Now". The "Preview Now" links are available in both Contents > Manage Content & Content > Manage Categories.

qEngine Blog

Then you can add a link to your blog entries or blog categories to your site menu by using ACP > Contents > Manage Menu. For a link to a specific blog story, simply search your blog title from menu editor. And for a link to a specific blog category, copy the URL from preview window & paste it to menu editor.

Blog List on Home Page

But, what if you want to replace the home page with your blog entries instead of site news? To display your blog instead of site news on the home page, follow the following steps:

  1. With your FTP or CPanel, open the file: /skins/YOUR_SKIN/welcome.tpl
  2. Add the following lines:
    <!-- BEGINMODULE page_gallery -->
    group_id = blog
    title = 1
    link = 1
    date = 1
    body = 1
    style = default
    orderby = page_date
    sort = desc
    cssclass = pg_welcome
    <!-- ENDMODULE -->
  3. For more information on "page_gallery" module, please see the page gallery documentation in ACP > Modules > Documentation.
  4. You are done!
  5. For default skin, the page gallery is used to display site news on the home page, to display your blog entries instead, all you need to do is changing the group_id to blog.

Using qEngine as a blogging script is as simple as that. You don't need any other modules or plug ins or third party script.
