Adding Cookie Consent to Your qEngine Installation

Adding Cookie Consent to Your qEngine Installation

You may have noticed that more and more websites are displaying something like: "This website is using cookies. By continuing browsing this website, you are agree to our use of cookies". Or something like that.

This is a cookie law launced in 2012 in the EU. But lately with the new GDPR law, even websites from outside of EU are displaying this information.

Adding this 'cookie consent' information to your qEngine website is very easy. There are several methods to do this, such as manually by creating your javascript, or using third party solution. In this blog, I will show you the latter method.

  1. While there are many cookie consent 'builder', I will use one of them, which is from Insites.
  2. Go to the download page, and customize the text & design.
    • For Compliance Type, select "Just tell users that we use cookies".
  3. Copy the code by clicking "Copy" button.
  4. Login to your website's ACP.
  5. Open Tools > File Manager.
  6. Open skins > default folder. Then click Edit on outline.tpl file.
    • If you have multiple skin folders, you need to apply step 6-8 for each skin.
  7. Paste the code, after {$module_js_list} line, the final result should be something like this:

  1. Save the file, and return to your website. You should see something like in the thumbnail.

Congratulations, you have added cookie consent to your website! To be GDPR compliant, you need to modify your website's privacy policy, you can follow this information about that.
